Varanasi
Welcome to Varanasi
The Spiritual Heart of India
Varanasi — also called Kashi and Banaras — is one of the oldest living cities in the world, believed to be over 3,000 years old. For centuries, families have come here to mark life’s most sacred milestones.
What better place for Ved’s Janao (Upanayan) ceremony than the city where tradition lives and breathes every day?
Why Varanasi is Special for a Janao
Upanayan marks the beginning of a child’s spiritual learning.
In Varanasi, learning is not symbolic — it’s everywhere.
This is the city of scholars, saints, Sanskrit chants, and sacred rituals performed on the banks of Maa Ganga. It’s believed that ceremonies performed here carry deep spiritual blessings.
Simply put: this is where tradition feels alive.
The Sacred Ganga
The River Ganga flows gently through the city, and life here revolves around it.
There are more than 80 ghats (riverfront steps) along the river. Each has its own story.
At sunset, don’t miss the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat — lamps, chanting, bells, and devotion all in perfect rhythm.
It’s not just a ritual. It’s an experience.
Temples & Timeless Energy
No visit is complete without darshan at Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
The temple corridor, newly developed, beautifully connects the shrine to the Ganga — blending ancient faith with modern architecture.
Another peaceful spot is Sarnath, where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon over 2,500 years ago.
Varanasi is where multiple philosophies meet — peacefully.
Things to See (Between Ceremonies!)
- Early morning boat ride on the Ganga
- Sunset Ganga Aarti
- Walking through the charming, narrow lanes (called galis)
- Banarasi silk saree shops
- Classical music performances — Banaras is famous for its gharana
Every corner here tells a story.
What to Eat (And Yes, You Must!)
Varanasi is a paradise for food lovers.
- 🍅 Banarasi Chaat – tangy, spicy, unforgettable
- 🥛 Malaiyyo – a winter delicacy made from milk froth (available only in mornings)
- 🍮 Rabri & Jalebi – pure festive indulgence
- 🥪 Tamatar Chaat & Kachori Sabzi for breakfast
- 🥤 And of course, the iconic Banarasi Paan
Fun fact: Varanasi food is almost entirely vegetarian — deeply rooted in tradition.
Fun Facts About Varanasi
- It is believed that Lord Shiva himself founded this city.
- Mark Twain once wrote: “Banaras is older than history, older than tradition…”
- It is home to Banaras Hindu University, one of Asia’s largest residential universities.
- The city has inspired poets, musicians, and scholars for centuries.
- Time feels slower here — and that’s the magic.
